In 2008, there was much discussion in the media about possibility of the Oakland Raiders selecting defensive end Chris Long. The son of Raiders legend Howie Long was projected to go in the top 10, where the Raiders had a pick. But the then St. Louis Rams took him No. 2 overall and the rest is history.

Then eight years into his career, the Rams move to Los Angeles and it appears he’ll get to play in the same city. The Raiders were in Los Angeles for 12 of Howie Long’s 13-year career in the NFL. That was until Friday, when Long, among others, was released to save money against the salary cap.

Long posted on Instagram, ” Thank you for all your support over eight years. “I love you all so much for sticking with me through the ups and downs. Bottom line is this is a production business. No excuses, the last two years have been [expletive]. It’s been painful to experience because I care deeply about my performance and my responsibility to my teammates.

“Before the last two years, I’m very proud of what I was able to accomplish in St. Louis. I’m not surprised, but it doesn’t make it any easier to lose your family.”

Speaking of family, now that he has been released, there is a chance that he could play for Daddy’s old team. The Raiders just lost defensive end Justin Tuck to a torn pectoral and retirement. They would have been in the market for Muhamaad Wilkerson of the New York Jets but they’re going to franchise tag him.

Plus we don’t know for sure if Mario Edwards Jr, who flashed as a rookie, will be back.

So should the Raiders bring in Raiders bloodlines to help?
