2016 Team Needs: AFC West
By Kris Rogers
San Diego Chargers
Team Needs: OT, DL, TE
Barring any trades, the Chargers are likely going to miss out on the top OT in Laremy Tunsil this year, which is a real disappointment since they could use his services. After signing a four-year contract in 2015, King Dunlap’s play seriously regressed, and Joe Barksdale is a free agent. Phillip Rivers is 34 and can’t survive the beating that he’s taken the past few seasons anymore, and an upgrade on the line is much needed if they want to get him a ring before his career’s over.
Three Options: Russell Okung (FA) Le’Raven Clark, Ronnie Stanley
The Chargers also need to plug holes on the defensive line, either at defensive end or nose tackle. Corey Liuget is still solid at DE, but San Diego needs another 5-tech opposite him, especially with Kendall Reyes hitting free agency. In a division with three above-average running games, the defensive line needs to be shored up.
Three Options: Cedric Thornton (FA), DeForest Buckner, Shaq Lawson
Back on offense, Antonio Gates and Ladarius Green are both free agents. Gates will be 36 by the time the season starts, and suffered numerous injuries and a 4-game PED suspension in 2015, and Green never established himself as anything more than an average receiving option. A receiver could also be an option here, because after Keenan Allen the Chargers have very little depth with Malcolm Floyd retiring.
Three Options: Mercedes Lewis (FA), Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper
Next: Oakland Raiders
