It doesn’t look like impending free agent Mohamed Sanu will be going back to the Cincinnati Bengals in 2016. FOXSports.com had multiple sources saying there is virtually no chance Sanu will re-sign with the team. Sanu will instead see what else is out there when the free-agent signing period begins March 9.
Sanu also said Thursday that his agent “hasn’t really said anything about communication with the Bengals.”
Sanu showed he’s a talented No. 2 option with a career-high 790 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 2014. But he wasn’t as effective in 2015, not scoring a single touchdown in 16 games. Tight end Tyler Eifert emerged along with fellow receiver Marvin Jones to help No. 1 receiver A.J. Green in the passing game.
Sanu is only 26 and has talent so there will be at least a decent market for him in free agency. Perhaps former Bengals offensive coordinator and new Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson wants to take him to Cleveland with him. Not only does he know Jackson’s system but he would figure to be much higher on the totem pole than he was in Cincinnati.
They team will have a rusty Josh Gordon coming back from his suspension but there’s no Green over there. There have already be some reports out in the media of Sanu being linked to the Cleveland Browns. If I were a betting man, I’d put my money on the wood to make the betting go good that he ends up with Jackson in Cleveland, staying in a division he knows.
