The NFL prefers players who can fit multiple roles and provide versatility. These players allow a team to run different systems and keep their opponents off balance. The 2016 NFL Draft features several versatile prospects, but the ones listed in this article standout.

Versatility in the NFL can be seen in different ways from playing multiple positions or just doing different things from the same position. For example, Cam Newton is the most versatile quarterback in the league because of his ability to make plays with his feet and arm.

The defensive line is the place where you see a lot of players capable of filling multiple roles. Those capable of dominating against the run but also able to rush the passer are coveted. JJ Watt is one of those who jumps out because of his versatility.

Watt is routinely among the league leaders in sacks, but also makes it nearly impossible for the opposing offense to establish a running game. His well-rounded game is why he’s considered an elite player and has won multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards.

My list of the most versatile players in the 2016 NFL Draft features high end talent, but no one that really hits the level of a Newton or Watt.
