The Philadelphia Eagles are having a great offseason with their own core players, locking them up to long-term contract extensions. Tight end Zach Ertz,  right tackle Lane Johnson, and defensive end Vinny Curry have all been signed to contract extension within the past month.

And Monday, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that safety Malcolm Jenkins signed a 4-year extension worth $35 million with $21 million in guarantees, per a source informed of the contract. In total, the new deal is worth $40.5 million and will keep him under contract through the 2020 season.

Jenkins is the fourth core player to land a new contract since Howie Roseman, the Eagles executive vice president of football operations. He is now the de facto general manager, looking to do the opposite of what head coach/GM Chip Kelly did in his time with the team. Now that he’s gone, the Eagles’ core players have a desire to stay in the City of Brotherly Love.

Jenkins said during a news conference Monday, I expressed to my agent that I want to be here for a long time. They took it from there. I think the Eagles did a good job of obviously expressing that I’m definitely in the plans.”

Jenkins was entering the final year of a 3-year, $15.5 million contract he outplayed the last two years in Philadelphia. During Super Bowl Week, the 1st-time Pro Bowler in 2015 suggested that he was due to get paid and Roseman deservedly came through for him on Monday.

He told the Philadelphia Inquirer, “Believe me, I’m waiting. I’m trying to get in line just like everybody else. That’s something I can’t control. But I’m definitely interested in staying. I want to be in Philly long term.”

The Eagles are on a roll so far this offseason but they’re not done yet.
