Western Michigan’s Willie Beavers 2016 Scouting Report

Willie Beavers is a raw but highly athletic left tackle prospect. He’s a fluid mover who can quickly move his feet and work in space. Beaver’s athleticism and prototypical size makes him an intriguing prospect with the potential to develop into a top-end player.

In the run game, he works to gain inside hand placement but lacks enough strength to consistently generate a push. Beavers needs to work on improving his overall power which included his upper body strength so that he can Velcro to the defender.

His athleticism comes into play in the running game as he’s able to gain proper position which allows him to turn and seal him from the play. At this point in his development, he fits best in a zone-blocking scheme where he can use his quickness to his advantage.

As a pass protector, Beavers shows quick feet and the balance to protect the edge. He’s a natural bender who keeps his pads down and maintains leverage. Beavers is committed to using his hands and working to keep defenders off his frame.

The work he needs to do in the weight room includes working on his lower half to improve his ability to anchor after contact. Beavers plays with balance, but must get stronger in order to avoid getting pushed back into the pocket.

This is a prospect who has the natural tools to develop into an above-average starter in the NFL. However, he’ll need some time to get stronger and round out his overall technique.
