It looks like New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is going to hit the 20-year mark with the team. ESPN reported Monday morning that he and the team reached agreement on a 2-year contract extension. The extension is set to keep the star quarterback with the Patriots through the 2019 season.

Brady said in October that he plans to play for another 10 years and his extension will get him half way there. It will also take the soon-to-be 39-old in August to age 42 if he plays through all of it. Playing through the extension would take the quarterback to the 20-year mark in the NFL as well.

The financials behind the extension have yet to be released, but Brady is scheduled to cost $15 million against the cap next season and another $16 million in 2017 under his current deal. With the season he’s coming off of, there’s no reason to believe that this isn’t money well spent.

Unlike fellow quarterback legend Peyton Manning, Brady has been healthy, looking the same as he always has. The big challenge ahead of Brady and Belichik is preventing an improving AFC East from catching up to them. The division could be among the best in the NFL as soon as next year.
