From the beginning of the offseason up to now, it looked like the Philadelphia Eagles would let quarterback Sam Bradford hit the free-agent market after all. New head coach Doug Pederson is a quarter back whisperer and from his public comments, it sounded like he thought he could win with a number of quarterbacks.

There was never any point where Bradford was under consideration for the franchise tag either. The Eagles didn’t seem to valued him too much but Tuesday just after the franchise tag deadline, they signed him. They actually overpaid him on a 2-year deal worth $36 million, $26 million guaranteed.

As bad as he was in Philly last year, the 28-year-old certainly would not have broken the bank in free agency. Bradford is talented so the move seems like a 2-year rental to see what Pederson can do with him. And if Bradford can do something with his next two years in Philly, he’ll really break the bank when he hits free agency again at age 30.

That’s a good situation for Bradford to be in if he stays healthy and does well in Pederson’s system. And it made for even better situations for Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brock Osweiler, who were clearly better than Bradford in 2015. Domino No. 1 of the free agent quarterbacks has just fallen so stay tuned for what may happen next.
