8. Marcus Gilbert

Draft Pick: 2011 Round 2, Pick 63

Picked in the second round of the 2011 draft, Marcus Gilbert won the Steelers’ rookie of the year award for his play, starting 13 games at right tackle. Coming out of college, Gilbert was praised for his prototypical frame at 6-6 and 320 lbs, as well as his physical nature and his versatility, playing both tackle and guard in college.

In his first few years, Gilbert had his fair share of question marks. An ankle injury landed him on IR in his second season, and hurt his development. However after the hiring of Mike Munchak as the Steelers’ offensive line coach, Gilbert’s play greatly improved and was rewarded with a five-year, $30 million contract in 2014, and was a considered by some to be a snub for the 2015 Pro Bowl.

Gilbert’s injury history early in his career hurt his growth as a player, and needs a few more years of playing at this high level before he can be considered being put any higher on this list, especially without any Pro Bowls under his belt.
