4. Cameron Heyward

Draft Pick: 2011 Round 1 Pick 31

Cam Heyward took a few seasons to get acclimated to the NFL. Playing in every game of his first three seasons, Heyward was stuck on the depth chart behind the likes of Brett Keisel, Aaron Smith, and Ziggy Hood in terms of the starting D-Line rotation. It wasn’t until 2013 that Heyward became a full time starter, and his improvement showed.

The change in defensive coordinator also helped Heyward’s production. Going from Dick LeBeau’s two-gap system to Keith Butler’s one-gap allowed the Ohio State prospect to use his aggressiveness to blow up plays in the backfield more often.

The son of Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, Cam led the defense in both sacks and tackles for loss in 2014 and 2015. A vocal leader on and off the field, Heyward plays with a high motor and intensity that’s difficult to match. Already signed to a long-term extension, Heyward appears to be one of the core members Pittsburgh’s defense going forward.
