Los Angeles Rams to start Case Keenum in 2016?
Since the offseason started, everyone from Peyton Manning to Robert Griffin III was supposed to be the starting quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams for the 2016 season. When Manning started hinting that he wanted to come back in 2016, it seemed like Tuesday follows Monday that he would start for the Rams.
R.G.III looked like he would be plan B in case Manning decides to ride off in the waiting Sunset. But we don’t yet know if Manning is going to play and if he does, what happens with him is up to the Denver Broncos. As likely as he is to be cut if he decides to play, a desperate team could trade for him.
That’s not likely but the talk about Manning to the Rams has died down a bit since the Tonight Show episode where Magic Johnson tried to recruit him. The talk about R.G.III, who’s also Hollywood enough for the Rams to take with them to Los Angeles, has died down as well.
The Rams seem to have another idea at this time and it’s Casey Keenum.
Who?
What?
Yeah, Casey Keenum!
Head coach Jeff Fisher has made it known in the media and that Keenum will be the starter throughout the offseason. And there is some validity to it as he has a 3-2 record with four TDs to one INT in five starts. Even Keenum has come out and spoken about how he has been treated like the starter this offseason.
He told Around The NFL at the Manhattan Beach Marriott, “It’s the first time that I’ve had a coach believe in me through the offseason like this. So, I’m excited about the position that I’m in and the position the team is in. I think we’re poised to make that next step and be a playoff contender.
“I want to be the leader this team needs me to be. And the leader that I know how to be. It’s not just on the field on Sundays. It’s not just on the field during the week in practice. It’s off the field. It’s in the meeting rooms. It’s in the training room, the weight room, it’s in the cafeteria talking to guys. All those things are very important to me, and I hope the guys look at me like that.”
It sounds like the coach and GM have him believing too!
We’ll see if that holds up if the Rams actually get a chance to bring Manning in!
