The Miami Dolphins have a winning tradition that they haven’t held up in quite some time now. The team has made the playoffs just once since 2001 and that was back in 2008—eight years ago. And it’s no coincidence that the Dolphins’ drought started right around the time Bill Belichik too over the Patriots.

Now, the Dolphins are tired of bowing down to the Patriots and kissing Bill Belichik’s rings. They want to bring their tradition back and win rings again after not doing so since over 40 years ago. It all started last offseason, when they overpaid for Ndamukong Suh, 2015’s top free agent.

And when that wasn’t enough the fired head coach Mike Philbin with the season still going. This offseason, they hired Adam Gase, who got quarterback Peyton Manning to set offensive records with the Denver Broncos and Jay Cutler to have his best year in the NFL in stints as an offensive coordinator.

That bodes well for quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who’s developing with 2015 1st-round pick Devante Parker coming back. That and a defense built around Suh are good things but still, the Dolphins are gearing up for something. Saturday, the team released receiver Greg Jennings then restructured the contracts of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and linebacker Koa Misi.

That can’t be a coincidence that the Dolphins did this as they try to re-sign running back Lamarr Miller. It also happened to be on the same recently cut defensive end Mario Williams, was in for a visit. The previously salary-cap strapped Dolphins saved a $5.5 million cap hit for 2016 on Jennings and the restructured contracts have the Dolphins nearly $20 million under the cap.

Hold on Dolphins fans, the Dolphins are up to something!
