Robert Griffin III cut: Where does he go now?
After a breakout year from quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Washington Redskins did the inevitable. They cut Robert Griffin III after deactivating him in 2015 to avoid injury guarantees in his contract. The 2012 No. 2 overall became an immediate superstar, winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors then injuries zapped him the next two years.
Then in 2015, head coach Jay Gruden went out of his way to make sure that Cousins was the starter. And Cousins made Gruden right, forcing the team to franchise tag him, leaving the writing on the wall for RGIII. So the Griffin’s long-awaited move, which came Monday, was a surprise to no one.
While many are quick to forget how phenomenal before tearing his ACL and MCL in a playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks. But all it takes is for one team to believe in him, give him another shot and with his talent, he can be a star again. But the word on the NFL streets these days is RGIII’s market as a free agent is as a backup for now.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported last week the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys are interested in the 26-year-old. But with the Los Angeles Rams losing out on Peyton Manning because of his retirement, RGIII could possibly start there. Head coach Jeff Fisher has done wonders with quarterbacks that can run.
Vince Young was a big help to running back Chris Johnson rushing for over 2,000 yards in 2009.
And now, he has Todd Gurley at running back!
