The Washington Redskins already released Robert Griffin III to save almost $17 million against the salary cap on Monday. But they decided that wasn’t enough and wanted to trim some more weight. So the team also released defensive lineman Jason Hatcher, according to a post on his Instagram page.

The post said,”I want to take this time to thank Dan Snyder and the entire Redskins organization for letting me stop by to serve the purpose God has on my life for these two years. I am proud of the way this football team has grown and will continue to grow and I’m proud to have been a part of it.

“To the fans y’all are the best and it was a pleasure to make it a winning season for you guys. Whelp I can’t stay on here all day I got to get my butt to work and find another damn job …”

Hatcher will be 34 at the opening of training camp this year and was due more than $6 million this year. He’s also coming off of a bad year with only two sacks and 16 tackles, playing in 14 of 16 games. At 34 under his circumstances, he won’t be a top free agent but should have a few suitors looking for a veteran lineman once camp opens.

The Dallas Cowboys have a need at defensive tackle and don’t have a lot of salary cap money to spend. Last time he played for them in 2013, he had his best season in the NFL with 11 sacks that year. Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli was Hatcher’s position coach back then so there could be a match.

Meanwhile the Redskins are unloading salary to get ready for free agency to improve on their division-winning 2015.
