Southeastern Louisiana’s Harlan Miller Scouting Report

Harlan Miller is easily one of my favorite to watch in this draft class. He’s a tenacious and aggressive player who has a knack for making impact plays. Miller has some physical limitations that hurt his ceiling, but this is someone who is capable of overcoming any obstacle.

The thing with Miller is that he’s always around the football and can play extremely tight coverage. He remains in-phase with his target all over the field and has quick reactions when the ball is in the air. Miller is a smart and instinctual player who doesn’t hesitate once he makes his reads.

It’s those instincts that allow him to overcome his physical limitations and make game changing plays.

Miller’s aggressiveness and fearless style of play is something all defensive coordinators will love. He isn’t afraid to support the run and routinely fights through blocks. His toughness also flows over to special teams where he should be able to quickly make an impact on kick and punt coverage.

The concerns with Miller are that he lacks ideal bulk and had a poor showing at the combine. His 4.65 40-yard dash was among the slowest times for a defensive back. This is worrisome because there are a lot of elite athletes in the NFL who could quickly outpace Miller on the edge.

It also leaves little room for mistakes as one misread could result in a touchdown.

However, there’s a place in the NFL for someone with Miller’s toughness and instincts. He just needs to find a team willing to give him a shot and look past his weaknesses.
