It’s about time!

The Cleveland Browns have finally made it official and cut troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel Friday. Manziel has had second, third, fourth, more than enough chances to get his stuff together. But all he seemed to do is get in more trouble and he’s still partying, being caught outside of Hollywood nightclub recently.

When Manziel did manage to make it unto the field in his brief career, he was an awful quarterback. He was 2-6 as a starter, completed 57 percent of his passes, had seven TDs, seven INTs, and a quarterback rating of 74.4. If he got that many chances playing as badly as he did, imagine if he were actually good.

The Browns selected Manziel with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2014 draft, ahead of Teddy Bridgewater and Derek Carr. Manziel texted then-quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains from the draft’s green room as he slid down the board. He was convincing enough for Loggains to send the message to then-head coach Mike Pettine and owner Jimmy Haslam.

It said, “I wish you guys would come get me. Hurry up and draft me because I want to be there. I want to wreck this league together.”

Loggains said in a radio interview of that day, “When I got that text, I forwarded it to the owner and to the head coach. I’m like, ‘This guy wants to be here. He wants to be part of it.’ As soon as that happened, Mr. Haslam said, ‘Pull the trigger. We’re trading up to go get this guy.'”

Head coach Mike Pettine and Ray Farmer were against the pick but the first ones fired when it didnt’ work out. It seemed like the Browns got their first hint of who Manziel was as soon as they pick him. After his first organized team activities he was spotted partying poolside in Las Vegas, clutching a bottle of what appeared to be champagne while floating on an inflatable swan.

After being set back by that pick, the Browns are playing moneyball with head coach Hue Jackson, looking for a quarterback.
