The Ravens have always known how to work the system for the NFL Draft. Select talented players, let them cash out in free agency with another team, collect compensatory picks, rinse and repeat. In 2016, the Ravens were awarded three comp picks; two fourths and a sixth.
Typically, the Ravens stay out of free agency, especially big name players. That policy caused the Ravens to miss out on signing OG/OT Kelechi Osemele, who went to the Raiders on a bank-breaking five-year, $58.5 million contract. On his way out of the Charm City, the former second rounder out of Iowa State said that he was “coming from a place where that [The O-Line] was not really appreciated”
While the Ravens haven’t done much, they’ve resigned Shareece Wright and Albert McClellan, and use the franchise tag on kicker Justin Tucker. Baltimore also made the move to sign tight end Benjamin Watson from the Saints to a two-year, $7 million contract.
The Ravens have been clearing a lot of cap space in the past few days by restructuring contracts and signing Joe Flacco to a 3-year extension and don’t have any big free agents coming up in the next two years, so they could be in play to bring in a few more pieces. The Ravens have been linked to former Steelers Kelvin Beachum and Mike Wallace.
