UCLA’s Myles Jack Scouting Report

Myles Jack is arguably the best athlete in the 2016 NFL draft class. He features a rare combination of size, explosiveness and change of direction ability. His athleticism allows him to make plays from sideline to sideline and fill multiple roles on the defense.

While Jack’s athleticism is the first thing most people notice it’s important to note that he’s an instinctual football player. He makes quick reads and doesn’t hesitate to attack the ball carrier. Jack is a disruptive defender who routinely makes tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

He’s a bit undersized for the linebacker position, but most of those concerns are put to bed thanks to Jack’s tenacity. His willingness to take on blockers in the hole by using his hands to deliver a powerful jolt allows him to effectively support the run.

However, it’s Jack’s ability to drop into coverage that separates him from the pack. His combination of quickness and hip fluidity allows Jack to cover multiple positions. He can easily run with tight ends and running backs, but also is capable of covering some wide receivers.

UCLA routinely asked Jack to lineup in the slot and play man coverage. Jack not only held his own but showed the potential to be a lockdown cover linebacker.

His recovery from an early season knee injury has raised some questions about how quickly he can see the field. However, the rehab appears to be going well which means Jack should be ready for full contact during training camp.
