Oklahoma’s Zack Sanchez Scouting Report
Zack Sanchez is an undersized but feisty cornerback prospect. He plays an aggressive brand of football that includes taking some risks. His size limits his overall potential, but there will be plenty of teams looking for a playmaker like Sanchez.
This is a balanced athlete who can quickly change direction and keep in-phase with receivers. He also features the short-area burst to click and close on the football. Sanchez isn’t afraid to take chances which results in a high number of interception opportunities.
He possesses strong ball skills which includes good hands and the ability to properly track the football. Oklahoma used a few different coverage schemes which gave Sanchez the opportunity to gain experience in both zone and man coverage.
Due to his lack of size, his best fit on the outside would be in zone. Here he would be able to read the quarterback and attack the football. It would also allow him to take risks and play off his instincts.
The size issues may force Sanchez to spend most of his time working out of the slot. Today’s NFL has made the slot cornerback an important position and one that sees a lot of action. There are some defenses that are rarely in their base formation.
Sanchez should also be able to make an immediate impact on special teams. He’s a tough player who doesn’t hesitate to support the run or make a tackle. Those are the type of skills that translate over to special teams.
Overall, Sanchez should be able to quickly carve out a niche for himself where ever he lands.
