It’s official!
Former Oakland Raiders center Stefen Wisniewski is a journeyman in the NFL after pricing himself out of Oakland. Wisniewski wanted top-5 center money to stay in Oakland but GM Reggie McKenzie figured if he’s going to give a center that kind of money, it’s going to be a top-5 center.
So he allowed Wisniewski to hit the market and signed Rodney Hudson last offseason. Wisniewski would then stay in free agency for a long time until the Jacksonville Jaguars finally signed him for one year. After failing impress the Jaguars enough to get a big offer from them after the one season, he stayed on the free agent market a long time again.
The first, second, third and fourth wave of free agents found a home and Wisniewski remained until now. Wisniewski recently went on visits with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers. And after the visits, the Philadelphia Eagles, desperate for offensive lineman, are due to sign him to a 1-year contract.
In Philly, it looks like Wisniewski will play guard, the position he played as a rookie with the Raiders in 2011. Wisniewski once looked like a promising, young offensive line prospect but after finishing his rookie contract, he seemed to think he was there already, looking for money he had not yet earned.
Now, he’s getting ready to play for his third team in as many years, making him a journeyman. If he doesn’t go in and fully impress this year in Philly, it will be four teams in four years. That’s a long way down for a guy that was looked at as an up-and-comer, getting so much love in Raider Nation.
