Robert Griffin III started out as a phenom, setting the record for quarterback rating for a rookie. From there, the 2012 NFL Rookie of the Year would struggle with injuries and ineffectiveness. There was nothing he could have done about the injuries but the ineffectiveness was on him.

Perhaps, if he would have cared more about football and less about his brand, he would have been better. Here we are in 2016 now and RGIII hasn’t taken a meaningful snap in the NFL since December 2014. And he has really been humbled and learned, now wanting only to play football again.

In his introductory press conference with the Cleveland Browns Wednesday, RGIII said, “I just want to play ball, man. I’m excited to be here. Last year, I didn’t have an opportunity to play football so to have that opportunity here to compete and grow, it’s truly a blessing.”

When asked what it was like to be on the bench last season, RGIII asked the reporter, “Have you ever been able to not write? It’s one of those things you love to do something so much and when that’s stripped away from you one of two things could happen. You can either tank it and allow it to break you or you can let it build you up and show you that you really love this game.

“I’m not trying to let any baggage hold me down from my past, but I do have a massive chip on my shoulder. I know this team has a massive chip on its shoulder.”

When asked if he is humble now, RGIII said, “If you say you’re humble, then you’re not humble, so I can’t say that.”

It sound like he gets it now!
