2016 NFL Draft: Georgia Tech’s D.J. White Scouting Report
By Jon Dove
D.J. White is a talented cornerback prospect who should hear his name called on the second day of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Georgia Tech’s D.J. White is a soundly built and long-armed cornerback prospect. He plays an aggressive brand of football that gives him the ability to play multiple roles. His versatility extends to having the skill set to fit in either a zone or man-coverage scheme.
White’s long arms are a real asset that helps him keep in range of his target and high point the ball in contested situations. The fact that White aggressively attacks the ball when it’s in the air helps him make the most of his long arms.
He’s an aware player that does an excellent job tracking the ball while it’s in the air. White features the ball skills and ability to get his head turned around that help him pull down interceptions.
In zone coverage, he keeps his pads down which allows him to maintain his balance while backpedaling. This also gives him the ability to quickly click and close on the football. White’s so effective in zone coverage because he can close on the ball, read the quarterback and generate either pass breakups or turnovers.
He’s a defensive back who isn’t afraid to come up and support the run. White is a reliable tackler who breaks down and limits yards after contact. This extends to making sound tackles in pass coverage after breaking on the ball.
White is a prospect we could see come off the board early than expected because there isn’t much not to like about his game.
