Ryan Fitzpatrick, who did well as the New York Jets starting quarterback in 2015, wants to get paid. He has seen how much money unproven guys at the position are getting these days and wants in. What Fitzpatrick, a competitor, fails to realize is that he’s a journeyman and journeyman don’t get big contracts.

Fitzpatrick is looking to capitalize on throwing for almost 4,000 yards and 31 touchdowns for the Jet last year. He even had a 95.3 quarterback rating with the Houston Texans last year in 12 starts. But the Jets aren’t going to ignore the fact that he hadn’t done anything the previous nine years.

So the two sides are at an impass, with the Jets freezing everything until the draft in the 28th. Then Brain Hoyer was cut by the Texans after taking them to the playoffs after the 2015 season. And now, the plan is for the Jets to bring the 30-year-old in for a visit on Tuesday to potentially replace Fitzpatrick.

Hoyer has come close to joining the Jets several times over the course of his career. So while Fitzpatrick and the Jets are still millions of dollars apart, Hoyer can end up with a good opportunity. His past production is similar and is three years younger so all he has to do is ask for less money.

While Hoyer didn’t had the type of individual season Fitzpatrick had in 2015, he did lead a team to the playoffs. And the Jets don’t quite trust that Fitzpatrick will have that kind of season again. They also know what type of quarterback his when he’s not breaking records for Jets quarterbacks.

Decisions, decisions!
