Maybe a Clue

This could be nothing but there might be a clue in the new Raiders getting their jersey numbers on Friday. CB Sean Smith took his previously worn No. 21 away from fellow CB Dexter McDonald. LB Bruce Irvin took his previously worn No. 51 away from fellow LB Ben Heeney.

OG Kelechi Osemele, (70) S Reggie Nelson, (27) LS Andrew East, (48) LB Daren Bates, (56) and LB Brynden Trawick (41) S took open numbers. Heeney then took No 50 and McDonald took No.23 while Underwood went from No. 87 to No. 48 because he moved from LB to TE this offseason.

Now, Charles Woodson is retired so you now the number is open as the Raiders don’t retire numbers. And No. 24 is one of the most popular numbers in the NFL among defensive backs. Yet none of the veterans chose it and none of the younger defensive backs that got their number snatched took it.

All there is left is the draft picks, who get whatever the new veterans and players that switched numbers left. Lynch is No. 24 so I can’t help but wonder if the Raiders are saving it to welcome him home. If I don’t see anyone from the Raiders draft class of 2016 in it once they’re picked, something is up!
