The Cleveland Browns Select WR Corey Coleman At 15th Overall After Two Trades Down

It was a long way down from 2nd overall to 15th for the Cleveland Browns, who traded down when the Eagles moved up for Wentz a week ago and again when the Titans targeted Jack Conklin on draft night. When the pick finally came in from the Browns it was a shocker.

The Browns took Corey Coleman out of Baylor, a speedy wide receiver who produced well in his college system. Generally regarded as the 3rd overall wide receiver in the class, 15th still seems high to some and the Browns probably could have grabbed him even later.

With Josh Gordon a lost cause, the Browns need some source of offense for RG3 to throw the ball to, but the very fact that RG3 will be throwing the ball is cause for concern for some. But when your team is more or less one gaping hole, wide receiver is as good a place to start as any.

The Browns did trade down several times and will have tons of pick to build with as a result. I wouldn’t be shocked to see them take a QB later in the draft in the inevitable event that both Griffin and McCown can’t play, but I like the decision to build the team before taking a QB too early.

With Gary Barnidge breaking out last year, Cleveland could be getting ready to build some passing options under new coach Hue Jackson. Coleman brings playmaking and speed to the team which is a great way to generate some offense for a team that has struggled to do so.

It’s nice to see the Browns looking like they have some idea of what they want they want to do with their team. If they keep this up, they might just start winning games.
