The Philadelphia Eagles land their quarterback of the future by drafting Carson Wentz.

After their blockbuster deal up to the #2 pick, the Eagles made their quarterback situation even more murkier by selection of Carson Wentz. This now puts the spotlight on Sam Bradford and his situation. With so much money tied up in the quarterback situation, the Eagles will at least have to clarify to Bradford, Wentz and Daniel what the plan is for all three of them.

The one factor working for the Eagles here is that Wentz, by all analysis, is a raw prospect who only threw 600+ passes in his college career. So he needs time to learn NFL level tools since he’s coming from the FCS level of competition. This could allow the Eagles to start Bradford or Daniel for a season or two, then hand over the reins to Wentz in year 2-3 of the Pederson era. Whether the fans will be as patient is something that will have to be seen.

Wentz is seen as a mobile, strong armed quarterback with some mechanical issues that need to be worked on. He shredded zone defenses in college so expect teams to use a lot of man press until he shows he can deal with it.

The best pro comparison, style-wise for Wentz is Blake Bortles. Both have a decent amount of mobility, a good arm but had some mechanical flaws coming out of school. Wentz is further back in his development and experience than Bortles but if he develops correctly that is his career arc.

With so many draft picks now gone from dealing for Bradford in 2015 and trading up to #2 for Wentz, the Eagles will have to hope to find some gems in the later rounds.
