The Miami Dolphins allowed running back Lamar Miller to follow the money to the Houston Texans. And head coach Adam Gase is looking to run the football a lot more than he did in 2015. So he needs a running back to emerge this season to make that part of the offense relevant.

Jay Ajayi, who would have been taken much sooner if not for knee concerns in 2015, got some work in last year. They seemed to be working him in slowly as he looked good in spots. Then in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Dolphins took talented Kenyan drake in the third round.

New head coach Adam Gase recently says the job is Ajayi’s to lose. He told 560-AM via the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, “Ajayi’s been one of those guys he’s been here every day. He’s done everything right. You can tell he’s looking to improve. “He doesn’t say much, just keeps working.

“The rest of that group has done a good job to try and keep up with him, but obviously he’s kind of separated himself from that group as far as the consistency of what he does day in and day out.He knows he’s the starter. He’s showing me a lot of great things.”

Ajayi isn’t messing around with what he sees as his break, telling Miami Dolphins.com, “I’ve been excited since I found out that Lamar (Miller) was going to be moving on and that the position would be available.

“I’ve just been pushing myself through this offseason to prepare myself to have a great sophomore season. I was able to get a lot of opportunities last year when I finally started playing, and I felt comfortable. Now, I’m ready to elevate my game to a new level this season.”

With quarterback Ryan Tannehill returning with receiver DeVantae Parker and that defense, the New England Patriots need to watch out if Ajayi turns out to be what I believe he can be!
