Rolando McClain Misses Dallas Cowboys’ OTAs
After being a major disappointment with the Oakland Raiders, linebacker Rolando McClain started to carve himself out a career with the Cowboys. He replaced injured Sean Lee in 2014 and helped give the Cowboys just enough of a defensive presence to go 12-4 that year.
Then of course, he would go on to disappoint the Cowboys with a suspension for smoking that bud last year. And now, McClain is disappointing the team again by skipping OTAs. They are considered to be voluntary by rule but NFL teams consider it to a big deal if you don’t go.
When asked about McClain, Cowboys’ executive vice president Stephen Jones told the Dallas Morning News, “You always want everybody here. Certainly I know coach Garrett wants everybody here, 100-percent attendance. And it’s certainly disappointing when they’re not here.
“But at the same time we know there’s always circumstances where guys are gonna miss. And that doesn’t necessarily indicate if that guy’s gonna have a good year or a bad year. I think it certainly gives them a better chance to have a good year when they’re in our competitive offseason conditioning programs, the OTAs, all those things.
“Obviously these aren’t mandatory. We certainly can’t press the issue but we certainly encourage guys to be here and we think they have a better chance to be successful over the course of the season if they attend these things.”
When it comes to McClain not going to OTAs, it is absolutely a big deal. McClain had a series of off-Just before the Raiders cut him in 2013, he went to training camp out of shape. He also sat out a year when the Baltimore Ravens picked him up, before he ended up with the Cowboys.
So his love for the game of football is questionable, making his absence from OTAs a big deal!
