Reshad Jones’ Return Great for Miami Dolphins
Last season, Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones told Dolphins.com via, AC in the AM, “I personally believe I’m the best safety in the league. I know there are some great safeties in this league. I have a lot of respect for those guys.
“But my body of work speaks for itself. I’ve got versatility on my side. I can play both safety positions. I can make plays. I’ve got the numbers to back that up.”
Seeing that lets you know that he believes he should be the highest paid safety in the NFL to go with it. But that is not the case as according to Over the cap.com, he’s the No. 9 on that list. So Jones planned to sit out minicamp in an effort to get a more lucrative contract extension.
But after missing the opening of minicamp Tuesday, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that he showed up Wednesday. Jones told the Miami Herald that he didn’t want to be a distraction to his teammates, he’s there to play football and that he has no plans to sit out training camp.
The Dolphins could fine him $12,765 for missing the first day of camp, per the CBA but Rapoport adds that it’s unclear if the Dolphins will do that. The Dolphins could very well excuse the fine as good faith in any contract negotiations moving forward.
Jones reporting is good news for the Dolphins as they don’t need this kind of thing right now. The Dolphins have their new coach, made some great additions and could have a special turnaround season in 2016.
