Eugene Monroe to be a Giant Soon?
Eugene Monroe hasn’t been able to stay healthy since joining the Baltimore Ravens in 2013. So after drafting Ronnie Stanley in the first round for the 2016 NFL Draft, Monroe is out of there. The Ravens were trying to make a deal to send him to the New York Giants but it fell through.
So the Ravens released the veteran left tackle after those trade talks crumbled Wednesday. The move also helps Baltimore’s cap situation by creating $6.5 million in salary-cap space However, the Ravens will take on $2.2 million in dead money in 2016 and $4.4 million in 2017.
Being a free agent now, it shouldn’t take Monroe very long to find a new team to play for. Monroe is only 29 and can still play but just hopes a change in scenery can bring him better health. And there are a lot of NFL teams out there that aren’t in the best shape at the left tackle position.
Teams like the Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears and New York Giants could all come calling soon. Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots could also put in a call for Monroe’s services. It’s not like quarterback Tom Brady has had the greatest of protection lately.
But if I were a betting man, I’d bet on the Giants to make the best offer and get him on the team. Afterall, the are the team that was willing to trade for him until talks broke down between them and the Ravens. Either way, he’ll get another shot somewhere and can do well if healthy
