Trevone Boykin’s legal issues are threatening his chances to be the No. 2 quarterback with the Seattle Seahawks.

As it stands, Trevone Boykin and Jake Heaps are the only two quarterbacks the Seattle Seahawks have backing up Russell Wilson. Both have zero NFL experience, but were expected to have training camp to prove their worth.

Things became a little cloudy with Boykin facing up to 1-year in prison as a result from an assault arrest back on December 31st 2015. Seattle knew of Boykin’s legal trouble before they drafted him but they are now getting some clarity.

The Seahawks have expressed their confidence in Boykin and the fact that he’s more than capable of serving as the team’s backup quarterback. However, things will change if he misses any practice time.

Boykin has plenty of talent, but is raw and as much practice time as possible to get a feel for the NFL game.

The fact the Seahawks were willing to head into the season with just Boykin and Heaps on the roster was a bit of a head scratcher. This is a team with Super Bowl aspirations who also know the importance of home games during the playoffs.

If Russell Wilson were to miss time, the Seahawks would risk losing home-field advantage. It’s possible that the Seahawks planned on bringing last year’s backup, Tarvaris Jackson, into the mix during training camp.

This plan appears to be on hold as Jackson deals with a legal situation of his own.

The Seahawks appear to have some work ahead of them as they search the free agent market for a veteran backup quarterback. Seattle should learn a lesson from the Dallas Cowboys who saw their playoff hopes shattered when they didn’t have a strong option behind Tony Romo.
