Jason Pierre-Paul to Turn Negative to Positive
New York Giant defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul had himself a horrendous 2015. It all started on the fourth of July when he accidentally blew off large portions of his finger while lighting fireworks. Pierre-Paul hadn’t yet signed his franchise tag for $14.8 million that year.
So he would end up signing a one-year deal for a much smaller number and didn’t make it onto the field until November. When he returned, he played just well enough under the circumstances to get another one-year deal. So he’ll get a chance to turn a big negative into a positive this year.
If he plays up to the leve he played at before the accident, he’ll get the big money he was looking for all along. Pierre-Paul is trying to turn his negative into a positive in another way too. He looking to make his mistake a lesson for others for this Independence Day.
He made a PSA with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which aired Thursday.
He said “In a split second it blew off my whole hand. “All I could do was think about my son and was I going to make it. Now, I’m truly blessed to be alive.
“Now, when I look at fireworks, I think about safety.”
According to ABC News, in the months surrounding the Fourth of July holiday, about 230 people go to the emergency room every day with fireworks-related injuries, according to figures from the CPSC.
If the view of Pierre Paul’s mangled hand saves one person from making that big mistake, he has turned that negative into a positive. We’ll find out about the rest a couple of months from now.!
