It’s been a long time since the Oakland Raiders had a quarterback to brag about!

But Derek Carr is just that after throwing 53 touchdown passes in the first two years of his career. That total is the second-most of any quarterback in history over his first two years in the NFL. Only incomparable Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino has thrown more with 68.

Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson are just under him with 52 a piece. So as he heads into his third NFL campaign, Carr has all kinds of hype surrounding him. Michael Crabtree, his receiver, is leading it calling Carr a “gunslinger” in the mold of Hall of Famer Brett Favre last month.

Carr has always idolized Favre, wearing the number four in his honor. But many would say that it’s going much too far to compare Carr to Favre, the NFL’s leader in just about every statistical category for there is for quarterbacks that have ever played.

Favre disagrees with any comparisons between himself and Carr but had high praise the third-year quarterback. He spoke to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area’s Amy Gutierrez and went into detail about the differences between himself and Carr.

He said, “I don’t know if I consider him [Carr] a gunslinger. I think he’s a little more polished. And I mean that with all due respect. I think he’s done a tremendous job in Oakland. I like the way he plays. I think he’s a little more polished. I like to watch him. A good player.”

So while it may be time for the comparisons to Favre to end, there is good reason for the hype-train. He’s coming back with 2015 first round WR Amari Cooper along with Crabtree and TE Clive Walford in the same system with a beefed up offensive line.

Carr will be one to watch in 2016!
