The franchise tag is an interesting part of the NFL offseason as it pays the NFL Franchise tagged players a high 1-year salary but doesn’t offer much long-term security.

In less than two weeks, the deadline for signing NFL franchise tagged players to get a long term extension will be upon us.

Some teams have resolved their franchise tag situations, some teams are hoping that there’s resolution and some teams appear to have some regrets about their decision. Let’s discuss where each franchise tagged player stands and what are the chances that they get a long term contract before July 15th.

The first two guys have had their franchise-tag status removed after working out new long-term deals.

Cordy Glenn, OL Buffalo: Glenn has received a 5 year extension so he is irrelevant. However, locking him up long-term is a big win for the Bills. He solidifies the most important position along the offensive line.

Josh Norman, DB Carolina: Norman’s tag was rescinded and Norman signed a massive contract with Washington as an unrestricted free agent. This was a interesting situation as we rarely see a franchise tag rescinded.

This move helped Carolina’s long-term salary cap situation while hurting the stability of the secondary. Washington, as usual, didn’t hesitate at the chance to add a high-profile player.

Next: Von Miller
