Rookie Corey Coleman is the Cleveland Browns most explosive offensive weapon and will see plenty of targets.

The Browns don’t have many options at wide receiver and appear ready to heavily feature several rookies. Corey Coleman is expected to be a major part of the game plan thanks to his big-play ability and the fact he was a 1st round pick.

Coleman is going to have his share of ups and downs. Despite his elite talent, he’s an extremely raw player who needs time to learn the mental part of the game. Coleman has very little experience running pro-style routes.

At Baylor, he as mainly asked to run 9-routes and try to outpace the defender. NFL cornerbacks are better athletes and more experienced than the ones Coleman abused in college.

Cleveland needs him to dive into the playbook and learn to read defenses. The fact that the rest of the receiving corps is made up of young players means that there really isn’t a veteran presence in the locker room.

Things are made worse by the quarterback situation that will see one of Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown or Cody Kessler starting. Griffin appears like the most likely candidate to win the job, but reports are he has looked shaky during the offseason.

McCown is a solid player whose better suited for a backup role. The Browns surprised everyone when they drafted Kessler in the 3rd round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Kessler is a cerebral quarterback who wins by making quick decisions and accuracy.

However, his lack of arm strength is a concern and will limit Coleman’s ability to stretch the field.

It’s going to be a really interesting season in Cleveland, but they are hoping that some of the young talents like Coleman are able to quickly blossom into stars.
