The Clock is Ticking on the Denver Broncos
Defending Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos have no more time to play around! DE Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan are already gone from their historically great defense. QB Peyton Manning, one of the greatest ever, even though he didn’t play that way last year, is also gone.
And right now the Broncos are run the risk of losing OLB Von Miller for the 2016 season. I always thought it and he has confirmed that he will not play this season for the $14 million franchise tag. He doesn’t like the rules of the tag, calling the it a problem for players that he can help fix.
Pro Football Talk quoted Miller saying on ESPN, “No, I’m not gonna play on the franchise tag. It just doesn’t make sense in any way. I’ve never really played for money. “It’s bigger than that for me. It’s a league-wide problem that I feel like I’m in a situation to help out with.”
Of course, it’s about the money but Miller’s real issue is that the franchise tag is unfair to NFL players, restricting their ability to find out their true market value. So while Miller won’t play for the tag in 2016, that will be his only choice if he and the Broncos can’t work out a deal by Friday.
Friday, as a part of the rule Miller doesn’t like, is the deadline for franchise players to sign a long-term contract. If that deadline passes, and Miller and the Broncos still haven’t agreed to a deal, Miller will have to choose between going back on his word or not playing in 2016.
The Broncos must act fast!
The clock is ticking!
