Cornerback
Starters: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Janoris Jenkins
Backups: Eli Apple and Trevin Wade

New York is counting on the cornerback position being as strong as the defensive line. They have a lot of money tied up in this group and just used the No. 10 overall pick in the 2016 to add Eli Apple.

The big addition here is Janoris Jenkins who gives the Giants someone capable of creating a ton of turnovers. He does give up big plays from time to time, but makes up for it by generating takeaways.

New York’s selection of Apple was a surprise. The team had more pressing needs and most didn’t have Apple rated that high. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s able to make a quick adjustment and make an early impact.

Safety
Starters: Landon Collins and Darian Thompson
Backups: Nat Berhe and Mykkele Thompson

The Giants plan on allowing Landon Collins to play closer to the line of scrimmage this year. He’s a big-hitter who got exposed last season when the Giants asked him to cover too much ground on the back end.

New York is able to play Collins in the box more because they added some talent at the position. Rookie Darian Thompson has already gotten some run with the first team and appears to on track to win the starting job.

Thompson is a solid cover safety who will do a better job manning centerfield than Collins did last season.
