Running Back Latavius Murray, DeAngelo Washington
This is another hard one in which I’m choosing to favor the returning player. Coaches like what they know more than anything and Murray has earned more of the organizations trust to date. But Murray, even though he rushed for over 1,000 last year, has to improve to keep his job.
He did improve last year at making guys miss and breaking tackles but still has to get better. We already know Murray has the vision find holes and the burst to get through and go the distance. He just hasn’t shown that he’s good at getting the tough yards against tough run-defenses.
DeAngelo Washington, the team’s 2016 fifth-round pick will have a say in this matter. Washington is a jitterbug in the open field and even though he’s just 5’8″, 204 pounds, he has power to run inside. He also catches the ball well out of the backfield, which is the role he will start out with.
Murray is going to have to be able to get more yards than what available to him on occasion. At Texas Tech, Washington showed that he has the ability to make something out of nothing. To me, this will be the most interesting and underrated battle in trainning camp this year.
