Quarterback: Derek Carr, Connor Cook

One of the no-doubt starters on this Raiders team is 2014 second-round steal Derek Carr. In the same year that they got the best football player in the draft in the first round, they got their franchise quarterback in the second. And Carr made his big jump to year to in a different offense.

This year, he is set to make another big jump because of the help he has around him and he’s playing in the same offense for another year. This gives him more command of the offense, meaning he can do whatever he sees fit with it at any given moment.

Carr is coming off a season where he threw for a hair under 4,000 yards, 32 touchdowns, and a quarterback rating of 91.1. Many like to talk about his tail-off in production down the stretch but the main reason for that was No. 1 receiver Amari Cooper having a foot injury.

After watching Matt McGloin last year in relief of Carr, this shouldn’t be a surprise. Connor Cook, the team’s 2016 fourth-round steal, will be Carr’s primary backup quarterback. Many thought Cook would go in the first round but questions about his leadership surfaced.
