Strong Safety: Karl Joseph, Nate Allen

Going into the offseason, safety was looked at as a weak spot for the Raiders but it has been addressed. The team took Karl Joseph, one of the most dynamic players in the draft, in the first round. For my money, he’s the best player in the 2016 draft but a torn ACL ruined his draft stock.

But when he played in 2015, he played, racking up 20 tackles, two for a loss, a sack, and five interceptions in just four games. He’s only 5’11, 205 pounds, but the man will put a hole in you if he hits you. He’s also disciplined enough to break down and make the sure tackle when he has to.

To go with his ball-hawking skills and physicality, Joseph can also cover receivers one on one. He is a truly gifted player whose injury has come along to where he got to run around a little this offseason. The word is he is ready for training camp so there’s no reason for him not to start.

Backing him up will be Nate Allen, who signed a big contract with the Raiders last offseason. But things didn’t quite work out for him as he had injuries to go with some bad play last year. The Raiders cut him and brought him back for cheaper, wanting to make him a backup.
