Tight End: Clive Walford, Lee Smith

Tight end Clive Walford, the team’s 2015 third-round pick, will have his breakout season this year. He could have had it as a rookie but a badly pulled hamstring in the offseason cost him valuable training camp reps. Therefore, he didn’t see much time until Week 5 then he gradually took over.

The supremely talented Walford will not look back as he is clearly the team’s best all-around tight end. Walford can go underneath as well as get deep down the field while still being a good blocker. Opposing teams will no longer be able to tell what the Raiders are doing on offense.

Before, you always knew that the Raiders were going to throw the ball if Mychal Rivera is in the game. They also knew the Raiders were likely running when Smith was in the game. A do-it-all tight end like Walford will take that away from the defense is he starts in 2016.

Smith is the going to back Walford up as the Raiders will be more of a running team this year. He’s the best blocking tight end in the stable and he’s good for a catch or two underneath. Rivera will come in on passing downs with two-tight sets but he has a threat in Gabe Holmes.
