Mike Zimmer has signed a new deal with the Minnesota Vikings which will keep him with the team for the foreseeable future.
The Minnesota Vikings made a great hire when they plucked Mike Zimmer away from the Cincinnati Bengals. His success since joining the team has already earned him a contract extension.
It only took Zimmer two seasons to lead the Vikings to a playoff berth. Last year’s NFC North title came as a surprise with everyone expecting the Green Bay Packers to claim the honor. His record after two seasons is 18-14.
Expectations are high for this upcoming year with the team looking to repeat as division champions and make more noise in the playoffs. This is a team built the way Zimmer wants with a strong running game and versatile defense.
Defensively, the Vikings have several exciting players who are still projected to get better. Linebacker Anthony Barr is one of those defenders who could be counted on more to rush the passer this season.
Minnesota has done a great job building their secondary where they have former high draft picks Harrison Smith, Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes on the roster.
The defense is in great shape, but Minnesota needs the offense to get better if they hope to make more noise in the playoffs.
This means that Teddy Bridgewater must make better use of his weapons and produce more explosive plays. Stefon Diggs is the team’s deep threat and someone capable of picking up yards after the catch.
However, the addition of rookie Laquon Treadwell should be a real benefit. Treadwell makes an impact by using his size, strength and long arms. He does a great job fighting through contact and making plays in contested situations.
The offense doesn’t need Bridgewater to do it all because Adrian Peterson is still on the roster and capable of performing at a high level.
Zimmer earned his contract extension, but his success has created high expectations. This should be a fun franchise to watch over the next few seasons.
