Colin Kaepernick Fighting For it
It’s crazy to think that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was in the Super Bowl after the 2012 season. I know the mighty fall but Kaepernick is just 28 years old. His quarterback rating was 98.3 that year as his record as a starting quarterback was 5-2.
Then in 2013, his quarterback rating was 91.6, he went 12-4, and the 49ers went to the NFC Championship Game. Then he fell off a cliff as his quarterback rating was 78.5 and he went 7-9 after going 8-8 in 2014. Enter new head coach Chip Kelly who seemed to be the choice to save Kaepernick’s career.
Then all of the sudden, Kaepernick doesn’t want to be in San Francisco, trying and failing to get a trade. After that, he decides being a 49er isn’t so bad, especially since he didn’t want to take a pay cut for a trade. And now, Kaepernick is fighting for his career as he is not the guaranteed starter for the 49ers right now.
After a few days of training camp, the fight is even withneither quarterback having an advantage. Kaepernick is now splitting reps down the middle with Blaine Gabbert, who played pretty well in relief of an injured Kaepnernick last year but Kelly was not with the 49ers.
He’s only counting what happens since his arrival and what happens in game action at that.
Kelly said at a press conference shown by NFL Network, “They’re not going to get hit in any of our training sessions. There’s no quarterback in the NFL or college that probably gets hit at practice. Really the big determination for those guys will be the preseason games are going to be huge for those guys.”
If you’re a fan of Kaepernick, watch how he performs in each preseason game in comparison to Gabbert.
That’s where his fate lies.
