Head coach Rex Ryan already got off to a bad start with Buffalo Bills with a disappointing 8-8 record after vowing to knock Bill Belichick from his perch in 2015. It was particularly the defense, something Ryan has been known for, that was most disappointing.

It was crazy to see that a his defense was ranked No. 19 overall in the NFL. The secondary is air tight but the run defense and the pass rush was the undoing of the defense. So they took care of both problems in the draft, picking EDGE Shaq Lawson in the first round and ILB Reggie Ragland in the second.

But the Bills seem to be snake-bitten these days.

Lawson couldn’t make it through a non-contact minicamp practice without aggravating the injury to the point that he had surgery and will miss a significant portion of the season. Then Friday, Ragland went down in a training camp practice with a non-contact knee injury.

Ryan is reported to be “very concerned,” by WKBW’s Joe Buscaglia. As of now, the team is not sure but doesn’t believe the injury involved any kind of ligament damage. Surely, there will certainly be an update on the status of Ragland and his knee coming up soon.

Ryan told ESPN Ragland’s injury “looked odd” because he wasn’t hit. “But sometimes those can be the worse ones.” While trying to come back from a down season for his defense in 2015, Ryan’s first two draft picks, designed to strengthen that defense, are out with injuries.

Sounds like the Bills are snake-bitten to me!
