At one time, when he was with the Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins running back Arian Foster was one of the better running backs in the NFL. But of course, the wear and tear from all of those NFL carries took its toll on him. Hes’ only played in 20 of a possible 48 games the last three years.

So it was no wonder that the Texans released Foster this offseason and it wasn’t until later on that the Dolphins signed him. There wasn’t a big need for him because they had 2015 fifth round pick Jay Ajayi, who was picked so low because of his own injuries in college.

Ajayi was brought along slowly last year and flashed, making it easier to allow Lamarr Miller to walk in free agency this offseason. But last week, the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero threw us a curveball, saying Foster was playing “head and shoulders” above any Dolphins running back.

But even with all of the good words around Dolphins camp about Foster, the Dolphins’ first official depth chart has him behind Ajayi, who is listed as the Dolphins’ No. 1 running back. Even though I like Ajayi over Foster because of his youth, this is the month of August.

There is nothing concrete about the depth charts that come out but there could be a hint here. Ajayi just came back from a knee injury so their likely not confident either back is durable enough to get through a 16-game season. They they’re keeping the offense ready for both of them.
