The Oakland Raiders released their first official, unofficial 2016 depth chart a few days ago.

A couple of weeks into training camp, the battles for each available position are taking shape. Of course, there is a core of returning players that showed enough in games last year to come in as the starter. But up to now, there are players in heated battles for a positon.

For good reason, head coach Jack Del Rio refuses to make too much of a depth chart in August. It just means there are some early leaders for some of these starting positons. The Raiders kick off their preseason, huge part of where starting positions are won and lost, on Friday.

Again, no one that isn’t a star on the team or an entrenched starter has an insurmountable lead. But a lead is a lead and that means certain players have something and-or someone to overcome to get that spot on the depth chart that they want.

For those players that are in the lead, they have something to try to hold onto going into the first preseason game. There are a few surprises on the Raiders’ first official, unofficial 2016 depth chart. The Raiders are much deeper than they were in years past so there are some good battles.
