5. Denver Broncos Quarterback Competition

The Denver Broncos have a wide-open quarterback competition that is among the more intriguing storylines in the league. Quarterback battles are interesting enough, but there’s some added drama when it’s the defending Super Bowl Champions who are looking to replace a legend in Peyton Manning.

Mark Sanchez is getting the first opportunity with the starters this weekend against the Chicago Bears. His experience as a starter is important and something that likely gives him a leg up. However, Sanchez doesn’t have a track record for success.

His career has been plagued with turnovers and shocking plays like the butt fumble. This history is likely why the Broncos haven’t committed to him as their starter. They’re smart for letting this situation play out a little longer.

Trevor Siemian is the other option at this point in the process. He’s an unknown commodity who has done some nice things in practice. He obviously has some supporters in the building who are pushing for him to get this opportunity.

His lack of experience might be working in his favor as the unknown can be intriguing. He’ll have every opportunity to win the starting job and it starts this weekend. Siemian will work with the second unit this week and then get reps with the first team in the 2nd preseason game.
