Injury to Carson Wentz a big problem for the Philadelphia Eagles

Carson Wentz was injured during the first preseason game and is expected to miss a couple of weeks.

The Philadelphia Eagles lost rookie quarterback Carson Wentz to a hairline fracture in his ribs. Wentz is expected to miss most of the preseason with some hope he’ll be able to get on the field during the last preseason game.

Philadelphia is playing this injury off as not a big deal based on the fact that Wentz wasn’t expected to see much action this season. However, the preseason was his best chance at getting action against NFL competition.

Wentz is trying to make the transition from the lower level of competition he faced at North Dakota State to the NFL. This is something that will take a little time as there’s obviously a major jump in talent.

The preseason is the perfect opportunity for Wentz to get use to the speed of the game and also make some mistakes. Nobody cares about what the team’s record is at the end of the preseason which is great for a young quarterback.

They have the ability to let it lose and not worry about turnovers or poor throws. This is why Wentz missing these next few games is such an issue. He’s losing a great opportunity and possibly his only chance to get snaps this season.

The Eagles are committed to giving Sam Bradford a chance to lead this team on a playoff run. It’s entirely possible that Wentz doesn’t see the field at all this year and is asked to just sit back and learn.

However, he could get into the action should the season take a negative turn or Bradford goes down with an injury– which isn’t out of the question based on Bradford’s history.

Either way, Wentz’s injury is less than ideal and could cause some growing pains later in the year.
