The Gurley Factor

Gurley, Chubb’s former teammate, is a phenomenally talented running back himself. He’s so talented, he was regarded the best RB prospect since in Peterson when he came out last year. So the Rams had no problem picking him at No. 10 overall, even with his knee injury.

And Gurley rewarded the Rams for that pick, rushing for 1,106 yards and 10 TDs in just 12 starts. He added another 188 yards on 21 catches and was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. So when you have a player like Gurley, a knee injury isn’t a death sentence to his career.

And Chubb, proved to be the exact same type of player as a freshman, when Gurley was injured. He went right in and gained over 1,500 yards rushing on 7.1 yards per carry with 14 TDs. Gurley had 900 yards rushing on 7.5 yards per carry with nine TDs in his six games.

They are both good receivers out of the backfield and reliable in pass protection too. So there was no drop-off in Georgia’s offense when Gurley was injured or when he left school. Chubb has since rushed for over 100 yards a Georgia record 13 games in a row.
