Can Melvin Gordon build off last week’s strong performance?

Melvin Gordon is coming off a hugely disappointing rookie season and is looking to rebound this year. The overall vibe on his future is cloudy thanks to that poor rookie season and the fact he had micro-fracture surgery on his knee in the offseason.

So far this year, things are off to a solid start with Gordon showing some explosiveness on his 41-yard touchdown reception last week against the Tennessee Titans. The San Diego Chargers need Gordon to live up to his potential in order to get more balance on offense.

Many feel that Gordon’s struggles as a rookie weren’t all his fault with the mess the Chargers has along the offensive line. They are hoping that this group is able to stay healthy and provide more running room.

Gordon will still have a time share with Danny Woodhead and potentially Brandon Oliver getting some action. Woodhead will be a big part of the offense as someone who can produce in the passing game and move the chains as a runner.

Another thing that will take some opportunities away from Gordon is the fact that Philip Rivers loves to sling the football. This offense still revolves around Rivers and he’ll have plenty of chances to make plays through the air.

Gordon just needs to show that he’s capable of providing some big plays and contributing when he gets an opportunity.
